Hip-hop comes to the bastide with the 9th edition of Urban Talent. International battles, free workshops and local scene will punctuate this day dedicated to transmission and urban creativity.
The bastide is preparing to experience, on Saturday June 13, a new evening dedicated to urban cultures. Like last year, it is at the exhibition center that the Urban Talent event will be held for a highly anticipated 9th edition. On the program, as usual, is an international hip-hop battle, while showcasing local talent through an open, festive and participatory program.
Organized around a format now well known to dance enthusiasts, Urban Talent offers a complete immersion in the world of hip-hop, combining workshops, prevention, local scene and international competition. A day designed as a cultural and social highlight, accessible free of charge, and intended for a wide audience.
An opening placed under the sign of transmission
From 5 p.m., the public will be able to participate in a hip-hop dance workshop led by Villeneuvois Sosax, a recognized figure on the breakdance scene. The opportunity for the youngest, from 10 years old, to learn the basics of the discipline and to exchange with an experienced dancer. This workshop, free upon registration via social networks or by telephone, illustrates the organizers’ desire to transmit hip-hop culture beyond simple stage performance.
From 6:30 p.m., the exhibition center site will be transformed into a real entertainment village. Several local structures will be present to offer awareness-raising actions and various activities. La Sauvegarde 47 will notably host a road safety course, while the CJC will offer workshops on addictions. In a spirit of expression and creativity, the UNI-V association will hold a stand around music with an auto-tune workshop entitled “#PartageTonTalent”. The public will also be able to enjoy a live concert by Linçe, as well as the participation of the Atelier des Habitants, an actor involved in local life.
International hip-hop as the highlight of the evening
The highlight of the event, the international breakdance battle will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. For this 9th edition, eight teams from France and abroad will compete in a 2 against 2 format, in front of a jury made up of professionals in the discipline. Among the crews announced are From The North (Lille), Indigènes (Nîmes / Bordeaux), NY Posse (Cenon), Hypnotik (Agen / Limoges), and even groups from Brazil, Venezuela, the Canaries and Armenia. A diversity which confirms the international openness of the event and its anchoring in the contemporary hip-hop scene.
The dancers will be evaluated on their technique, their creativity and their musicality, in an atmosphere punctuated by the entertainment of El Pistolero and the sets of DJ Davy Jones. The winner will leave with prize money of 600 euros. At the same time as the competition, students from the municipal hip-hop dance workshop will come and present their choreographies, the fruit of the work carried out throughout the year. A way to promote local practice and give visibility to young talents from Villeneuvois.
