Matthew Perry: a former Hollywood producer involved in his death sentenced to 2 years in prison

Fans of Friends will never forget the date of October 28, 2023. The American site TMZ had in fact announced that Matthew Perry, the unforgettable Chandler Bing, had been found lifeless in his jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles. It was then revealed that the actor had died from an accidental overdose of ketamine. Two years after his disappearance which shocked all of Hollywood, Erik Flemingknown for having directed the film My Brother the Pig with Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes, was sentenced this Wednesday, May 13 to two years in prison by a Los Angeles court.

Before knowing the verdict, the former Hollywood producer admitted to being “haunted by mistakes” that he committed. “If there had been a way to bring him back to life, I would have done it. I am mortified to have played even a small role in the death of another person, especially someone as beloved as Mr. Perry.”he added. His sentence also includes three years of supervised release and a $200 fine. He was also ordered to report to prison authorities no later than June 29.

Did Erik Fleming plead guilty in the death of Matthew Perry?

In August 2024, Erik Fleming pleaded guilty one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. As for Kenneth Iwamasa, Matthew Perry’s assistant who lived with him, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine resulting in death. He admitted to having injected his employer with the drug that killed him. His sentence is due to be pronounced on May 27.
