A presence that gets people talking. Content creator Michou, followed by more than ten million subscribers on social networks, was chosen by M6 to be part of the system “XXL” set up by the channel for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Elsa Bois’s former companion will thus be responsible for filming “derriére les buts” during matches.
These sequences will then be published on the social networks of the channel and those of Michou. “The idea is to make people experience this through my camera, my feelings, my emotions and to share this as much as possible.. By being on the ground, in this place, to see and listen to what is happening and to convey to people what we perhaps don’t usually see.”explained the former participant of Dancing with the stars during a press conference.
Michou reacts to criticism of his role during the World Cup
The group’s announcement M6 concerning Michou’s place in his World Cup system has created lively debates on social networks, with some accusing the YouTuber of stealing the place of real journalists. Thursday May 7, Michou responded to his detractors in his Instagram story. “It’s going to be incredible. Know that I can’t wait. It’s crazy luck for me and I’m aware of it“he assured. “The news has taken a serious turn, I don’t know why, but it also got people talking”he then explained.
“There are people who are a little indignant to see that it’s me who is invited rather than someone else, perhaps more into football than me”continued the YouTuber, before clarifying his role during this World Cup. “Know that I’m not taking anyone’s place. There are plenty of football reporters planned. I’m just coming to share with you a little bit of what’s going on and the backstage from my point of view”a-t-il confié.
How will the World Cup take place on M6?
For the first time in its history, M6 will be the only free channel to broadcast 54 posters on the 104 matches that will include the 2026 World Cup. The channel will notably have exclusivity on the French team’s matches and a majority of the final phases until the last duel on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York. Besides Michou, other personalities will be part of the system put in place by the channel.
The champion Samuel Umtiti will comment on the Blues matches with Xavier Domergue and Benoît Cheyrouwhile the journalist Virginie Sainsily will be at the edge of the field. For the other posters, four teams of commentators will be deployed: the Domergue-Cheyrou duo, Julien Brun and Samuel Umtiti, Hamza Rahmani and François Clerc and, from Paris, Jean Ressegue and Jean-Marc Ferreri. An appointment not to be missed.
