Well installed in the landscape of Sables-d’Olonne, the classical music festival (baroque) Hugo Reyne comes back for a 9e édition Friday 22 to Sunday 24 May 2026.

“We are very lucky that, every year, Hugo Reyne organizes this beautiful festival for us,” says Jean-François Dejean, deputy mayor in charge of culture.

The elected official announced that, for the first time, the event will be associated with a place: the Saint-Jean d’Orbestier abbey. All concerts will take place there. “ We realized that Saint-Jean d’Orbestier was perfectly suited to Hugo’s music. So the Hugo Reyne festival will take place at the abbey, today and in the future. »

Mozart’s music, the common thread of the three concerts

This 9e editing will take place around Mozart’s work from the period 1777-1778.

This will be the first time we play Mozart for the festival. We release baroque music.

Hugo Reyne

Very early on, Mozart, guided by his father, went to Bohemia. The Kingdom of Bohemia (a territory currently part of Czechia) was renowned for its good wind instrument players.

In 1777, while he was composing his flute quartets, Mozart met in Mannheim, within the city’s famous orchestra, several bohemian musicians who impress him. Later, Mozart’s friendship with Anton Stadler, an excellent bohemian clarinetist, gave birth to a quintet and then a concerto.

Stadler, who will survive Mozart, will compose for play, flute-cane which will be very popular in Vienna at the beginning of the 19th centurye siècle.

In all these are fifteen musicians who will play during the three concerts scheduled as part of the festival.

The festival program

The three concerts will therefore be played within the Saint-Jean d’Orbestier abbey, in the Château-d’Olonne district.

Friday the 22nd May à 20 h 30 : trio cordes accompagné de la flí»te. Chamber music in quartet.

Saturday 23 May 20 h 30 : le csakan, une flûte bohémienne, Scholl, Krähmer, Csermák. Chamber music in quintet. The csakan is a wind instrument that is a “mixture between the shepherd’s staff and the shepherd’s flute. This concert will be more bohemian with music from Eastern countries,” explains Hugo Reyne.

Sunday 24 May At 5 p.m.: symphonies and concertos by all the musicians of Le Soleil and Hugo Reyne as soloist. Hugo Reyne here imagines Stadler playing on this new instrument the works composed for him by Mozart. “During this concert, I will dare play music that is not made for my instrumentthe flute. It is a though. No one has ever dared to play the clarinet concerto at the Csakan. Perhaps it’s my age that means I now dare to take the plunge. But I have anxiety,” smiles Hugo Reyne.
