To be dismantled on site on Monday, May 25, 2026.” In less than 24 hours, 170 seats from the Rex cinema in Pontivy (Morbihan) found buyers. Due to the success of the operation, the announcement posted on Facebook on Monday, April 27, 2026 had to be removed the next day. “Everything had been reserved,” noted Benoît Roué, the manager of the Rex cinema.
Seats from 1999 The seats from four of the five rooms at the Rex cinema have already been replaced. “In 2018, we replaced the seats in rooms 3 and 4. In 2022, those in room one. What remained were those in room 2, which dated back to 1999, the year the cinema was built.”
170 red seats, some slightly worn at the seams. “But the foam in the seats and backs is still firm, even after 25 years of use,” said Benoît Roué.
Key 13 required! Whenever Benoît Roué wanted to renew his seats, he did so the same way: by posting an announcement on social media inviting interested buyers to come and dismantle the seats themselves. Key 13 is mandatory! Cinema seat enthusiasts sniffed out the good deal.
There is a demand for cinema seats. Most of the people who reserved seats plan to set up a home theater. This year, two associations have also shown interest. In total, about forty people reserved seats.
“Classic, timeless” Once the 170 seats are dismantled on May 25, the carpet in room 2 will be removed two days later. The work will lead to the closure of room 2 from May 25 to June 12. During this time, a new carpet will be laid and 172 new seats will be installed. The cost of each new seat, including transport and installation, amounts to 320 euros. However, the sale of the old seats helps reduce the costs associated with this renewal. For the renovation, Benoît Roué chose to maintain continuity by keeping the same colors in room 2: a gray carpet and red seats. “Classic, timeless.” It will be at least twenty years before the next cinema seat sale operation is available.
