On Thursday, April 30th, a festive and friendly ball is being organized to support the Petit Théâtre de la Placette in Nîmes.
“This theater is a versatile place, it is a tool for dissemination and work,” explain Stella Pinnisi and Marc Simon from the Petit Théâtre de la Placette. A discreet place, animated for over 10 years by a team of volunteers, the hall hosts several initiatives, multiple associations that share this warm space.
“The balance is always fragile,” they acknowledge. That is why they are organizing a grand retro-futuristic gala on the evening of Thursday, April 30th, a support evening that will take the form of a rhythm’n’blues ball. Marc Simon, a multi-instrumentalist, will share the stage with Thierry Daudé and Samuel Silvant and their live project Les Madison Placette. “It’s more of a ball than a concert, we created a band for the occasion, we will play covers and compositions,” explains Marc Simon.
A real dance floor, disco balls, and a box of ties for those who may not have caught the dress code: come chic! “The goal is clearly to have fun. But also, with this moment of sharing, to say that we exist, we have projects and we need support,” continue Stella Pinnisi and Mark Simon, acknowledging that the venue remains relatively unknown, even to some Nîmes residents used to going out.
In this unusual place that is the Petit Théâtre de la Placette, several projects run in parallel. The Faraboles association by Claire Chevalier and Teddie Allin offers once a month “Les Jeudis pour rêver”, evenings around storytelling and oral tradition. The venue also hosts local comedian Emma Morin for monthly readings of heartfelt stories and great literary texts. The microphone is open for the Open-Mic evenings by Stéphane Elzière. The association Le Jazz est là offers precious concerts. The next event will take place on Thursday, May 28th, and Friday, May 29th, at 8 pm with Jobic Le Masson on piano, Peter Giron on bass, and Ichiro Onoe on drums.
The theater also regularly hosts residencies, such as the recent one with the group Superpêche in partnership with the Jazz en Junas association, allowing bands to rehearse and participate in events such as the music festival or the Les Verres du ter ter festival around ecological issues. In the fall, new associations are expected to join this collective, joyfully utopian project. But in the meantime, the Petit Théâtre de la Placette needs help, so bring out your suits, glitter, and dancing shoes!
