Many curious onlookers crowded against the barriers, hoping to catch a glimpse of the guests. “It seems that Catherine Deneuve will be here,” whispers a young woman. Others mention rapper Asap Rocky, a Chanel ambassador, and his wife, the superstar Rihanna.
“Two young people just arrived, we don’t know who they are, but they must be famous since no one asked them for their papers,” jokes Maryse, a local from Biarritz. Behind the barriers, she strikes up a conversation with two women from Toulouse, who came to see Farruquito in Bayonne the day before. “Here in the Southwest, in the countryside, they wear things like that as shoes,” the two friends laugh, pointing at the platform shoes of a guest.
In the crowd of curious onlookers is Salomé (15 years old), a high school student at Malraux, who has been waiting since 5 p.m. “I have a friend whose father was invited to the fashion show. So she has information and warned me. I ran to the market halls. It’s magical to see Nicole Kidman and Sofia Coppola for real! I’m waiting for Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie,” she exclaims. “Tomorrow, I think I’ll be in front of the Chanel boutique around 9:30 a.m. to try to see the celebrities and models arrive.”
