Ten Vietnamese celebrities who were excellent students, some even ranking first place twice.
Singer My Linh was top of her class at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (promotion 1993-1997). In August 1993, she and the Hoa Sua group won second prize at the national festival of folk music orchestras as well as the title of “Most Impressive Young Singer.” Over the decades, My Linh has remained one of Vietnam’s greatest divas.
In 2001, My Tam graduated with honors (intermediate level) from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music with a score of 9.5. Over nearly twenty years of diligent artistic activity, My Tam has become one of the most popular and loyal singers in the Vietnamese showbiz scene, winning numerous awards including Best Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (2012) and Best Southeast Asian Artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards (2013).
Ho Quynh Huong, a rare talent, achieved the highest distinctions twice. She graduated with honors twice: first as the top student in singing at the Military Academy of Culture and Arts in 2002 when it was still a college, then in 2013 after its transformation into a university. Ho Quynh Huong’s career is highlighted by powerful songs like “Toi” (Me), “Confusion,” and “Wild Dance.”
Son Tung M-TP, a successful singer and one of the most popular V-pop artists, surprised everyone by passing the entrance exam with a top score of 25.5 in singing at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
Hoang Thuy Linh excelled in the entrance exam for visual direction at the University of Theatre and Cinema in Hanoi after studying dance for 7 years at the Hanoi College of Arts and obtaining her degree in 2010.
Van Mai Huong was admitted directly to the intermediate singing program at the Military University of Culture and Arts after scoring the highest in the entrance exam, despite the requirement that singing students be at least 17 years old. She then graduated with honors and went on to become the top student in group N at the university, ranking among the top three candidates in the entire university.
Duong Hoang Yen achieved top scores in both the entrance and final exams of the singing department at the Hanoi College of Arts, leading to a teaching position. Alongside her performance and teaching career, at the 2024 “Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind” competition, she showcased innovative dance and stage styles, moving away from the conventional ballad style she was associated with for many years.
Captain Boy, representing Generation Z, excelled in academics and passion for music. After high school, he attended Thang Long University and scored the highest in singing. Born in 2003, he ventured into rap, making waves on the third season of Rap Viet and becoming the youngest finalist in “Brother Says Hi.”
Bui Truong Linh (stage name buitruonglinh) brilliantly passed the entrance exam to the Hanoi Conservatory of Music at the age of 8, specializing in violin. After eight years of training, he moved to Ho Chi Minh City to continue studying violin and singing at the city’s Conservatory of Music. Known for his song “The Road I Carry You,” Bui Truong Linh gained public recognition and finished second in the “Brother Says Hi” contest, winning the “Future Brother” prize. In 2025, he was proud to have his song “Prosperous Vietnam Shines Brightly,” which he composed, performed at the A80 event.
Hoang Hai, aka “Father Bear” in the second season of “Masked Singer,” scored the highest in the entrance exam for the singing department at the Hanoi College of Arts in 1999. At the Sao Mai Rendez-vous 2006, he won the “Most Popular Singer” award, becoming an admired voice with songs like “You Will Be My Dream” and “Just Be Silent.” In 2023, Hoang Hai returned for the second season of “Masked Singer” and continued to capture the hearts of the audience.
