In the framework of its Ciné Rétrovision – Heritage cycle, the Cinema Le Casino in Lavelanet is pleased to offer the public an exceptional cinematic evening on Sunday, April 26th at 6 pm, with the screening in original version of “The Grandmaster” by Wong Kar Wai as part of the Made in Asia festival.

Directed by one of the most iconic filmmakers of contemporary cinema, “The Grandmaster” elegantly and intensely retraces the life of Ip Man, the legendary master of Wing Chun and a major figure in Chinese martial arts. A true visual epic, the film combines a refined aesthetic with remarkably precise combat scenes, while developing an intimate narrative where destiny, transmission, and memory intersect. Led by the masterful performances of Tony Leung and Ziyi Zhang, the film transcends genre codes to offer a profound meditation on the passing of time, life choices, and missed encounters. Wong Kar Wai deploys his unique style, characterized by poetic slow-motion sequences, subtle play of light, and fragmented narration, offering the viewer a singular sensory experience.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Anissa Medjebeur, a researcher in film studies and specialist in Sinophone cinemas, allowing for a deeper exploration of the film’s aesthetic and cultural issues. At the end of the session, spectators are invited to extend this moment in a friendly atmosphere provided by the association La Sauce du Casino, with a snack priced at 5 euros per person in the room located on the 1st floor of the cinema. Like many others that have preceded it, and still within the framework of novelty, this evening promises to be a privileged moment of discovery, reflection, and sharing around a major work of cinema.
