The race for candidates is on. But one year before the presidential and legislative elections, we wonder: Is the political world doing well? During the municipal elections, it was a festival: Damien Abadc, candidate in Oyonnax, indicted for attempted rape, Laurent Brosse in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, convicted of harassment and aggression towards his ex-spouse, not to mention Jean-Michel Baylet, mayor of Valence-d’Agen, accused of rape and sexual assault on minors, re-elected without a shot. The long list of intact careers in politics, for suspected attackers, or convicted by the courts, is still very long.
Three quarters of elected officials have suffered sexist and/or sexual violence. But there are also activists, parliamentary collaborators… and in this political world where we so like to talk about “family”, the taboo remains strong, and measures to remove impeached candidates are still too rare.
