Rieumes was transformed into the local capital of urban cultures for a day. Organized as part of the “Urban Culture Week” initiated by the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council, this event was a great success with local youth. This success is above all that of a collective. The project brought together many local stakeholders: the Department, the Rieumes town hall, the MJC of Rieumes and Lherm, the Maison de la Terre, the Mission Locale Haute-Garonne and the Groove Académie association. A solid partnership which has made it possible to offer a particularly rich and diversified program.

Ahead of this big date, the ground had already been prepared. Writing workshops and mediation sessions were organized within the MJC and at La Maison de la Terre, offering participants a valuable space for speech and creative expression.

On the big day, the activities attracted a large audience. Between the rhythmic introductions to hip-hop dance and the rigor of the English boxing workshops, sport and art worked hand in hand. The event was also intended to be supportive and preventative: the “Lucky Bus” from the Local Mission was present to guide young people towards professional integration, while a stand from La Maison de la Terre raised awareness of gender-based and sexual violence as well as mental health.

A sign of youth active in its territory, the refreshment bar was entirely run by teenagers from the MJC of Rieumes. The evening ended in apotheosis and music with the sensitive and committed rap of “Leon Lia”, followed by the group “GoldStandards”, whose clever mix of soul, funk, hip-hop and electro won over the spectators. A unifying formula which proves the vitality of the local associative fabric.
