LA TRIBUNE SUNDAY – What does the scattering of candidates from the non-Melenchonist left reveal, in your eyes?
JEAN-CHRISTOPHE CAMBADÉLIS — We are in the time of proposals, not yet decantation. The left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon included, is today at 30%. No one is in the second round. And if one of the putative candidates was there, he would be beaten by the RN. The “nationalist bloc” potentially garners the vote of one in two French people. This is not due to the lack of unity but to a left which, while everything has changed, has solutions from the 80s, based on concepts from the 60s. This form of ideological conservatism was due to the electoral and political domination of Mélenchonism. We are barely getting out. It is not abnormal that, in these conditions, there is a multiplicity of offers. We must give time to time, said Mitterrand, to debates, to expressions…
Shouldn’t the PS support Glucksmann now since he is best placed in the polls?
Let us not fall into the trap of Mélenchon who wants to push us into haste without preparation to try to capture the useful vote. Look at Ruffin as he is asphyxiated because Mélenchon forced him to leave too early. Those in the PS who are advising Glucksmann to come forward are repeating the mistake they made with Hidalgo in 2022. She absolutely had to go on the campaign trail quickly, from September before the ecologist Jadot applied. Result, in December we had nothing more to say, and the PS was wondering about the Taubira candidacy. Glucksmann’s candidacy needs to be built, to be confronted, to be reinforced, to be supported. Leadership on the left cannot be decreed, it must be forged. He has the talent and the time for it.Â
