Colombian President Gustavo Petro has accused Israel and the United States of exporting methods of political manipulation to Latin America, which he compared to Nazi propaganda.
In a message published on social networks, Gustavo Petro reacted to a poster campaign targeting left-wing Colombian senator Iván Cepeda. The head of state described this initiative as a “crime” and criticized the competent authorities for not intervening.
In the same message, he claimed that the perpetrators of such practices had already acted in the name of a “free Palestine” and were now seeking to replicate them in a “free Latin America”, appearing to establish a link between this campaign, Israel and the United States.
The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, reacted on the X network by declaring: “President of Colombia, whatever happens in your personal life, there are lines that must never be crossed. HAS”
Relations between Colombia and Israel have deteriorated significantly since 2024, when Bogota severed diplomatic relations with the Jewish state. Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Gustavo Petro has increased his criticism of Israel and expressed his support for the Palestinian cause.
