Since its creation in 1946, politics has never really ceased to occupy an essential place at the Cannes festival. Like in 1968 when the directors went “on strike” and interrupted the event. From the recognition of the documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore, which received the Palme d’Or in 2004, to the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by videoconference in 2022, Cannes also lives to the rhythm of politics.
What is the place of politics within the history of the festival and how does it intervene? What are the subjects that particularly mobilize directors and the world of cinema?
To discuss it Jean-Pierre Gratien receives Laurent Delmas, film critic and columnist on France Inter; Mélanie Toubeau, founder of the YouTube channel La Manie du cinéma and Olivier Rajchman, journalist and film historian.
LCP gives pride of place to documentary writing in prime time. This meeting offers a differentiated approach to political, economic, social or global realities….so many themes which invite us to extend the documentary during a debate moderated by Jean-Pierre Gratien, in the presence of parliamentarians, actors in our society and experts.
