Police are on scene after a driver rolled over their car and crashed it through the fence of a Cape Coral home Saturday morning.According to the Cape Coral Police Department, a car rolled over and crashed near the intersection of Tropicana Parkway East and Northeast 5th Avenue. They said that the driver sustained a broken arm, and that the vehicle caught on fire.Alberto Herrera, a Cape Coral resident, described the crash. “A car, right here at the curve by Tropicana. It lost control, smashed into my brother’s fountain, and drove right through the property here,” Herrera said. Fresh tire marks now lead to the backyard of the home, where the car broke through a fence. Herrera said he was alerted to the crash by a neighbor and initially feared the worst. “I feared the worst because, supposedly, he had told me it happened inside my brother’s house. I thought it was the house, but it turned out to be outside—thank goodness—and, well, the drivers didn’t suffer any serious injuries,” Herrera said. Footage of the crash shows a cloud of smoke and the driver and passenger landing on a tree after being ejected from the vehicle. Both individuals were able to walk away from the scene. Herrera expressed concern about speeding in the area, which he said is a frequent problem. “It's not about material things—those can be fixed—but it is important for drivers here to be aware, especially since they are always speeding and driving too fast. There have already been many accidents. That is precisely why I am bringing this up. Drivers here really need to be mindful, please,” Herrera said.Video and images from the scene show the vehicle on its side with flames emitting from the front bumper and a fence destroyed. CCPD says the fire was put out. DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
