To follow this throughout the day. More breaking news to tell you about. A gas line was hit in Polk City, leading some people to evacuate the area. KCCI Marcus McIntosh joins us live from Polk City, where residents were allowed to return home about an hour ago. Marcus. We’re standing at the intersection of Oakland and Lyndale Drive here in Polk City. Now, when we got here, Mid-American Energy was hard at work. And this is the area they’re working on right in here. So that is the area where the gas leak occurred. But here things are slowly starting to get back to normal. When we arrived on scene earlier this morning, we can still smell the gas and Mid American Energy crews, as I mentioned, were on scene working to stop the gas leak. The leak was pinched off right about 10:45 this morning. At that time, Polk City’s Police Chief told us they were lifting the evacuation and people were allowed to return to their homes, telling us, along with the Fire Department, they went door to door at about 30 homes to ask people to leave because of the gas leak. They wanted to do that in an overabundance. Caution of safety. As for the cause of the leak, there was work being done outside by a construction crew that likely somehow cut the gas line, leading to the call for people to temporarily, temporarily leave their homes and now they can get back in their homes.
