President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Nigeria’s recently appointed ambassadors and high commissioners to focus on attracting foreign investment, strengthening strategic partnerships, and enhancing the country’s global reputation. This guidance was provided on Monday during the beginning of an orientation course for the diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, expressed confidence in the envoys’ capability to further Nigeria’s interests worldwide. He emphasized the increasing importance of diplomacy in a world facing geopolitical changes, economic uncertainties, technological disruptions, climate issues, and security risks.

Tinubu urged the diplomats to adopt a modern, results-driven diplomatic approach that incorporates digital engagement, public diplomacy, and strategic communication. He highlighted the achievements of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and stressed the importance of fostering partnerships, promoting trade, attracting foreign investment and technology, and ensuring the welfare of Nigerians abroad.

A notable policy adjustment was announced by the President, known as the 4D Doctrine, which reorders Nigeria’s foreign policy framework to prioritize Demography, Development, Diaspora, and Democracy. Tinubu emphasized the importance of professionalism, integrity, and patriotism in carrying out diplomatic responsibilities, urging the envoys to be accountable and focused on producing results.

The President commended the National Assembly for promptly confirming the envoys and encouraged them to make the most of the induction program to prepare them for effective service.
