The Iranian military command has announced that the US’s blockade of Iranian ports has prompted the reimposition of strict control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran had initially allowed a limited number of oil tankers and commercial vessels to pass through the strait after negotiations, but ongoing US actions have led to the tightening of regulations at the strategic chokepoint.
The conflict between the US and Iran, which began in February with a joint attack on Iran by the US and Israel, has resulted in casualties, Israeli attacks in Lebanon, and a spike in oil prices due to the de facto closure of the strait.
While some ships were able to move through the strait initially, the outlook for high-level US-Iran talks and a resolution regarding Iran’s nuclear program remains uncertain.
US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about negotiations with Iran, emphasizing the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. However, he also warned that the ceasefire with Iran could end if a long-term agreement to end the conflict is not reached by Wednesday.
