Carefully renovated, the mémediathèque Erik Orsenna has preserved the intimate style of an old residence with gentle proportions. Outside, a pond, aromatic plants and leafy silence envelop the places of serenity.
The result of this alchemy? 700 new registrations since the inauguration in October, including 230 from neighboring towns. The media library has 1,150 subscribers and nearly 1,000 visits each week.
« It’s beautiful, cozy, you feel good there.” The team of librarians receives this praise as the greatest dedicationÂ: “It’s a chance to work in a magnificent setting and in a village media library with its warm and human side.”
The shelves hold 4,300 children’s books, 5,007 adult titles with a large print collection for visually impaired readers and audio collections. Near 7.000 titres ont déjà été empruntés.
The floor below is the kingdom of Ludovic Thébault, digital coordinator, open and educational who guides on computers, tablets, 3D printers or cutting machines, extending culture to the digital margins.
Des animations réfléchies
Baby readers, writing workshop, literary café, author meetings, board games, language classes, parenting session and a partnership with Friends of the Library… The programme was composed gradually, listening to the desires of the public and rewriting itself over the course of requests and current exhibitions.
Outside of public opening hours, ten are devoted to nursery and elementary classes who embark on adventures read aloud by the librarians, Virginie Kevorkian and Elsa Camous, before choosing books to take away, but another ritual is included in the agenda.
On Wednesdays, Saturdays, and evenings from 4:30 p.m., when the schoolbags are thrown into a corner, young readers flock.
“It’s great to be close to the schoolchildren, we have to create a family and intergenerational place. The public is of all ages and there are also active people who come to work.”presents Aurore Texier, the manager of the place who did not expect such rapid success: “ It is a real link between the school and the Terrasse des Arts, which makes for complete and coherent equipment.».
As long-term captain of this ship of knowledge and imagination, the young woman dreams of other stops: why not an author in residence?
