The Espalion Premier Sourire du Midi (ESPSM) association reached a new stage in its history during its general assembly and its extraordinary general assembly.
The members of the ESPSM association (Espalion premier smile du Midi) have validated a modification of the statutes marking an exclusive refocusing of the association on culture and heritage. In front of the members gathered for the occasion, President Georges Mézeray, accompanied by Françoise Carrier, secretary, and Cécil Carrier, treasurer, presented the results of the past year’s activities. This was an opportunity to review the actions carried out within the framework of the citizen component which until then had been among the association’s missions.
Around ten classical music concerts
Georges Mézeray notably mentioned the report submitted last year to the mayor of Espalion on municipal governance as well as the procedure initiated before the administrative court concerning the sale of plots of municipal public domain. The latter, however, will not come to an end. “After consultation with the mayor and in the interest of both parties, we have decided to waive this procedure,” said the president. The association also took stock of the Francis-Poulenc & Friends festival organized last summer in Espalion, Estaing and St-Côme-d’Olt.
The various concerts brought together nearly 300 spectators and the organizers highlighted the success of the televised mass celebrated at the Espalion church. Building on this experience, ESPSM is now preparing a new musical event which will take place from July 15 to 22. Around ten classical music concerts are announced in Espalion, Bozouls, Saint-Geniez-d’Olt-et-d’Aubrac, Estaing and Saint-Côme-d’Olt. “We want to offer an event open to all audiences, from young people in leisure centers to residents of retirement homes,” recalled François Carrier.
The extraordinary general meeting finally validated the revision of the statutes and the change in the name of the structure. Now called “Espalion, Premier Sourire du Midi: Culture and Heritage”, the association intends to concentrate all of its actions on the promotion of local heritage and the development of cultural initiatives. Those responsible for the association should soon present in more detail the projects and operations linked to this new orientation.
