In village squares, in city streets, on neighborhood sidewalks or in public gardens, a DJ, a cellist, a choir, an amateur group or a jazz quartet will make the regions vibrate and bring together all generations. Over the course of an evening, connections are created, passions are born, vocations are awakened, to the rhythm of shared refrains, improvisations and musical discoveries.
At the origin of this event which has become essential, the Ministry of Culture encourages, throughout France, the deployment of concerts and musical initiatives in all their forms, from amateur proposals – which remain the soul of this festival – to major artistic events.
The Music Festival is also an opportunity to recall the commitment of the Ministry of Culture to the creation, transmission and dissemination of music throughout the territory. This commitment is reflected in particular by the support provided to venues, through the network of contemporary music scenes (SMAC), to conservatories and to artistic and cultural education systems intended for young audiences. It is also embodied in the actions carried out in favor of equality between women and men, inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
This year, the concert organized by the Ministry of Culture in the gardens of the Palais-Royal puts jazz in the spotlight in all its forms. This exceptional program celebrates both the revival of this music and a triple anniversary: the centenary of the birth of two major figures of modern jazz, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, both born in 1926, as well as the forty years of the National Jazz Orchestra, a unique formation created in 1986 and still at the heart of contemporary creation. Today directed by Sylvaine Hélary, the National Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to the American pianist, singer and composer Carla Bley, who recently passed away.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Music Festival mobilizes all of its public establishments, public broadcasting companies, associations, professional and artistic federations, as well as local authorities.
It also benefits from the support of numerous media and institutional partners.
