In the Meuse, a first plot of hemp was sown on April 17 in the Clermont-en-Argonne area then a second on April 27 near Nubécourt. The operations are carried out with the support of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Meuse and La Chanvrière. This crop requires specific technical conditions with warmed soil, nitrogen and phosphorus additions as well as significant land preparation before planting. Hemp is presented as a crop capable of competing with weeds thanks to its covering role. The farmers concerned also seek to integrate new production into their agricultural rotations in order to spread the economic risks linked to traditional markets.
Hemp attracts agricultural territories
On a national scale, the development of hemp is progressing in several French regions. This crop is attracting more and more farmers because of its potential outlets in industry, construction, textiles and even bio-sourced materials. Hemp is also regularly associated with issues of ecological transition and reduction of agricultural inputs. Several territories are now seeking to structure local sectors around this production in order to support the rural economy, agricultural investment and new industrial activities linked to natural materials.
