Killing and hostages in Morbihan: the army intervenes in a DIY store for an exercise

The police carried out a unique training in a DIY store à What (Morbihan) Thursday June 18, 2026.

A life-size exercise

This training is part of the Vigipirate “Attack Alert” plan.

Police and special forces

As soon as the first reports were made, Lorient police officers from the Local Security Group (GSP) intervened urgently.

They were quickly joined by the Anti-Criminal Brigade (BAC), in accordance with the national intervention plan. Under the direction of the Police Operations Commander (COP) of the Departmental Directorate of Public Security of Morbihan (DDPN 56), the police faced gunfire and grenade throwsneutralizing a first attacker.

The area was immediately cordoned off, giving rise to a vast hostage takingrequiring the intervention of level 3 units.

Intervention musclée

Nearly forty soldiers from the Lanester Marine Commandos, in collaboration with a section of the level 3 Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI-PP), took part in a coordinated maneuver.

 Under heavy fire from an armed group, these elite units entered the store, neutralized the terrorists, defused the explosive belts on civilians and freed all of the hostages,” indicates the national police.

THE employees of the Leroy Merlin store participated with great realism, reinforcing the authenticity of the simulation.

The operation ended with a live debriefing, followed by a moment of exchanges between civilian personnel, internal security forces and the military involved.
