Bancal Chéri: being a group above all

Dimoné’s side project in his garden of solo delights, Bancal Chéri is a meeting of artistic delinquents. So there is no more time to waste.

Dimoné is a poet. Do you know a lot of them today…? A shirt buttoned up to the collar despite the loud cagna, classy phrasing without being pedantic and a humility that is not overplayed. His story is of course similar to him. Absorbed by the musical tribes of the 1970s and 1980s, he crushed them until he made his crazy clay matrix. After five albums and two EPs under Dimoné, he launched Dimoné et le Tétra Lyre with Alban des Limiñanas and his lifelong Montpellier friend Jean-Christophe Sirven. A trio focused on guitars, keyboards and a drum machine. So no cymbal crashes. What emerges is atmospheric-prog and poetry placed on long instrumental tracks. Initiate a reverie but without revealing it completely, the music seizing the dreamlike side, where the need to remain silent in this artistic proposition is essential, Dimoné tells us.

“Understand who can”

But the time under the parasol is good at Bancal Chéri. A blase says “ situational oxymoron Â,” explains Dimoné, for these four unbalanced lovers who form this quartet necessarily identified with rock in the narrow milieu of song, because it mixes improvisation, the mood of the moment, while joyfully caressing the rough edges that surround them. aggregate.
Bancal Chéri was built in 2016, around the 90th anniversary of the birth of Boby Lapointe. His granddaughter, director of the Pezenas festival – her birthplace – brought together this disparate and shady creative pack. Project entitled “ Understands who can ”, with revisited and deconstructed covers of Boby Lapointe and more than 200 dates in nougats between 2012 and 2016. From this experience was born without an epidural Bancal Chéri.

Make a group

Imbert-Imbert, double bass-vocals, Roland Bourbon, drums-vocals, Nicolas Jules, guitars-vocals and Dimoné on guitars, keyboards and vocals. A democracy that works as it pleases, without a precise artistic line, apart from the joy of coming together around compositions to work together…:
“Be a group. For us, this is the most precious thing. Still being 15 years old at our ages and presenting this third album “La Belle”, an assembly of pieces that everyone brings and that we arrange when we meet for residencies, like the one recently at the Médiator in Perpignan. The album was recorded in Sète at Imbert. We slept there, we recorded, and in the evening we went for a drink at the Le Chaland bar with the local old people. It was Oz Fritz, Tom Waits’ mixer, who finished the deal. Imbert knew him because he worked with John Parish (PJ Harvey) on two of his albums, who knew him. »
Serious caliber behind the studio airlock for this quartet that nothing scares. The cliché: wind of freedom, would suit them perfectly. But we don’t feel it’s loaded enough, not iodized enough for them. A greater wind blows, only desiring to melt into minds not yet disturbed by the hatred of the other. This is what Bancal Chéri is wearing.
