France and Thailand have shown their desire to strengthen their cooperation in the field of defense, in the run-up to the international exhibition Eurosatory 2026 dedicated to the defense and security industries.

In a message published on the American social network Eid Boonthamcharoen.

According to her, the two officials reaffirmed their desire to develop bilateral cooperation in defense matters, in particular through Bangkok’s support for “France’s regional action in South-East Asia”.

The minister also welcomed “the positive dynamic” of Franco-Thai relations in the arms sector since 2024, as well as the signing of a letter of intent between the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) and the Defence Industry and Energy Center (DIEC) to support the joint development of their defense industrial and technological bases.

Catherine Vautrin finally indicated that she would like to continue these exchanges during the show Eurosatory 2026, which will be held from June 15 to 19 in Paris-Nord Villepinte and which will be devoted this year to the new challenges of defense, security and “multi-domain superiority”.

Thailand is France’s oldest partner in Southeast Asia. The two countries celebrated in 2016 the 160th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, established with the signing of a treaty of friendship and commerce in 1856.

Paris and Bangkok also signed a roadmap in February 2022 intended to strengthen their political, economic and strategic cooperation.

Thailand is France’s second largest trading partner within ASEAN and its ninth partner in Asia.

According to the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, nearly 290 French subsidiaries are established in the country, representing around 45,000 jobs.

Trade between the European Union and Thailand reached more than 40 billion euros in 2023, particularly in the industrial equipment and transport sectors.
