Opening of the popular history festival at the La Cascade cinema, in Martigues

The announcement of the popular history festival in Martigues: Pop’Histoire from May 28 to 31 was displayed this Thursday evening and for a few days on the large outdoor screen of the La Cascade cinema. An archive photo loaned by the Municipal Archives also informs the public about the first conference of this 3rd edition.

This image shows the workers of the Port-de-Bouc cod drying plant, operating between 1876 and 1950 in the La Lèque district. Boats containing cod landed there. The photo clearly illustrates one of the axes of the festival: giving voice and visibility to popular history, to workers, to the invisible and rather than to a single female figure, to a collective. Maud Blasco, head of the AHAA (Art History, Archeology and Archives) service, and her team were present at the La Cascade cinema on May 28.

A future confiscated from women?
