No double elimination of the world number 1 at Roland-Garros. A few hours after the shock defeat of Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka validated her ticket for the third round, Thursday May 28. The Belarusian won in two sets against a valiant Elsa Jacquemot, penultimate French representative still in the running (7-5, 6-2).
• Aryna Sabalenka always focused on her goal. Finalist last year and defeated by Coco Gauff, the world number 1 continues her journey without dropping a single set after two matches. She is still aiming for a final victory at Roland-Garros, one of the two Grand Slam tournaments missing from her record (with Wimbledon). But perhaps she has not yet fully gained her confidence, still very annoyed and frustrated on the court.
• End of the adventure for Elsa Jacquemot. After her good performance in the first round against the Czech Linda Fruhvirtova, Elsa Jacquemot delivered another great performance against the world number 1, which she held for the duration of the first set. But she will not repeat her performance from 2025, where she reached the third round.
• Diane Parry last Frenchwoman in the running. There is only one French representative entered in the women’s draw, Diane Parry, who qualified for the third round against top seed No. 30 Ann Li just before Elsa Jacquemot and Aryna Sabalenka entered the court Philippe-Chatrier. The Niçoise will have a lot to do in the next round against the American Amanda Anisimova.
