Violent Israeli strikes on the town of Tire, in southern Lebanon. Same thing in Nabatieh, stronghold of Hezbollah, the pro-Iranian Shiite group. On the morning of Tuesday, May 26, the Israeli army asked the inhabitants of this city to evacuate in anticipation of new strikes. Yesterday alone, 70 sites were bombed. And this, despite the truce in force for more than a month.

The Israeli Prime Minister assumes: “We are going to intensify the blows, the power and we are going to crush Hezbollah.”

Enough to dampen hopes for peace, especially since the Americans announce having struck missile sites in the south of Iran. They also targeted some small Iranian boats, suspected of laying mines. The strike is described as defensive. It does not call into question the possible agreement between Iran and the United States. It is Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, who affirms this: “As with anything of this magnitude, it will take a few days to be finalized, even in disagreements over a word or a sentence. We will therefore have to work on these points”.

A cold snap on the negotiations, but the hope of peace, still possible.
