A few days before his 80th birthday, the oldest president ever elected in the United States suffers from chronic venous insufficiency.
Donald Trump said Tuesday that his recent medical examination was “perfectly” unfolded, a few days before his 80th birthday and while questions were becoming more frequent about his health. “Everything went PERFECTLY well”said the oldest president ever elected in the United States, on his Truth Social platform, after being examined in a military hospital near Washington. He spent more than three hours there.
The White House did not immediately release a detailed account or a signed letter from the president’s doctor. Since his return to power in January 2025, the American leader has had a persistent hematoma on his right hand, covered with makeup and attributed to his taking aspirin as a routine cardiovascular treatment. He has reduced the pace of his travels to the United States compared to his first term, but maintains a rather brisk pace of trips abroad and frequently responds to the press.
Chronic venous insufficiency
The White House also revealed that Donald Trump suffered from chronic venous insufficiency, a common and benign condition, causing swelling or even cramps. During his first term, he was accused of lacking transparency about his health, particularly when he contracted Covid-19 in October 2020, which caused him to be hospitalized at Walter Reed hospital, the same where he underwent his medical exams.

The bulletin published after the medical examination in October 2025 indicated that he was “in excellent health” and that his heart age was “about 14 years younger” who are âge réel.
The Democratic opposition often highlights videos showing Donald Trump with his eyes closed during meetings and increasingly questions his mental health, relying on particularly violent or disjointed publications on its Truth Social network. The state of form of the American president does not raise questions in public opinion as sustained as that of Joe Biden at the end of his mandate, when the Democrat multiplied the falls or the confusions. But many Americans have doubts about his abilities.
In a recent Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll, 59% of those questioned believe that Donald Trump does not have the mental capacity to lead the country and 55% that he does not have the necessary physical health. The American president claims to be in great shape. “I feel like I did fifty years ago. It’s crazy”he said on May 12. “I am an extraordinarily bright person”he wrote on April 22 again on Truth Social.
