Rouen has not played in Ligue 2 since their relegation in 2004, while Laval has been in Ligue 2 since winning the National title in 2002.
In a packed Stade Robert-Diochon, the game kicked off, with Laval taking the lead after fifteen minutes through a stunning strike from Cyril Mandouki, set up by Mathis Houdayer (1-0, 18th minute). Rouen had a chance to equalize soon after, but Clément Bassin missed the target (24th minute).
