During their recent Shahed-type suicide drone attacks, Russian troops have begun to apply a new tactic: drones move in large numbers one after the other along the border with Belarus, at a distance of 5 to 10 km from it, Serhiy Beskrestnov reported, advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, on Telegram.
According to him, the adversary seeks to saturate Ukrainian air defense so that as many targets as possible can penetrate deeper into the country, particularly towards the western regions.
“Our guys are at work. Of course, the enemy prepares for such attacks, conducts reconnaissance of our electronic warfare assets and studies the positions of our air defense. Our task is to anticipate the enemy’s movements.”he added.
He also noted that hundreds of “Shahed” could have flown a short distance over Belarus, but they choose to bypass its border. “For the enemy, this represents additional risks of being intercepted, extended flight time and unnecessary complications in route planning,” Beskrestnov observed.
According to him, this demonstrates that Belarus is in no hurry to grant Russia the use of its airspace, even over a few kilometers.
