The first council of the municipality in 2026 saw the election of new deputies and set the tone: construction, common sense, and firmness.

Elections and delegations. In terms of finances, Marc Bourragu, C. Benavides, and Sandrine Letenoux were elected. In charge of revitalizing the town center and communication: Alexandre Monsalli, S. Letenoux, and Mickaël Nait-Ali. Carine Villalongue, deputy in charge of social and solidarity committee is assisted by Fanny Chêne, S. Letenoux, and Christian Marjarie. The youth committee consists of Carole Benavides, Céline Eymer, and Oumaïma Azibi. Responsible for urban planning and the environment: Jean-Camille Donnet. The sports committee is led by Laurent Legros. In terms of culture: Elodie Bardinet and Aracéli Carboni. The community life is overseen by S. Letenoux. Finally, Marc Bourragu will also serve as the National Defense correspondent.

As the majority, Mayor Frédéric Vergnes reiterated his team’s intention to request a financial audit. “Our first mission is to assess repayment and investment capabilities for 2026 and the subsequent years of the mandate,” continued Marc Bourragu. The finance assistant presented the budget orientation debate by announcing legal obligations. He provided an overview of Souillac’s situation, noting that the main fiscal resources of the municipality were property and housing taxes. Thus, F. Vergnes’ team will be guided by a concern for balance, continuity of ongoing projects, and debt reduction, especially since some planned subsidies will not be delivered. M. Bourragu concluded by pointing out that Souillac’s financial situation is concerning, less balanced than what the outgoing team had announced. With some investment conditions still unclear to the majority team, the audit will be necessary to clarify the situation.

Opposition’s viewpoint. The four opposition members disagreed with this analysis of budgetary imbalance. Claude Rabuteau described it as a “pessimistic vision and analysis of the new team.” Gilles Liebus believed that “this behavior will lead the municipality to its downfall!”

The session ended with these expected disagreements but it undoubtedly heralds a dynamic and committed term from both sides.
