Trump not in a hurry in Middle East war

Donald Trump assured on Thursday that he is not feeling pressured in the war in the Middle East, where the ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, in effect for two weeks, seems to be hanging by a thread.

Media reports from Iran mentioned explosions in Tehran for the first time since the ceasefire began on April 8. The ceasefire was unilaterally extended by the United States.

Prior to this, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz expressed readiness to resume war, waiting for approval from the American ally to bring Iran “back to the Stone Age.”

However, an Israeli security source told AFP that the army was not attacking Iran.

As the aircraft carrier George HW Bush approaches the Middle East, increasing the number of American aircraft carriers in the region to three, Donald Trump stated that he was not in a rush to end hostilities.

“I have all the time in the world, unlike Iran,” the American president posted on his Truth Social network.

“One Path”

During an event at the White House, Donald Trump later affirmed that he had no intention of using nuclear weapons against Iran after being questioned by a journalist on the matter.

“Why would I use nuclear weapons when we have completely obliterated them in a very conventional way?” he declared.

The conflict, initiated on February 28 by an Israeli-American offensive against Tehran, has resulted in thousands of casualties, mainly in Iran and Lebanon.

Diplomatic negotiations have been ongoing to end the conflict, but talks between Americans and Iranians, scheduled to resume in Islamabad early this week after an initial session on April 11, remain suspended.

Strait of Hormuz

Meanwhile, the Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen publicly since succeeding his father Ali Khamenei. The New York Times reported that Mojtaba Khamenei had been seriously injured, particularly in the face, but remained mentally alert.

Mojtaba Khamenei condemned the “psychological operations of the enemy” aimed at undermining national unity and security in a message.

With the ceasefire and halt to bombings, tensions are focusing on the strategic maritime chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz, subject to a dual American-Iranian blockade. Both sides have ramped up ship seizures and inspections, with Donald Trump ordering his navy to “destroy” any boats laying mines in the strait.

The paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz continues to impact the global economy daily, with oil prices surging over 5% on Thursday.

Hezbollah Rocket Attacks

In another front of the conflict in Lebanon, three people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Thursday, despite the ceasefire between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah in effect since April 17, expiring on Sunday.

Hezbollah later announced firing rockets at northern Israel in response to ceasefire violations by the Israeli army.

Representatives from Israel and Lebanon met in Washington for a second round of discussions, termed as “surrender” by Hezbollah.

After these talks, President Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between the two countries, expressing optimism for a peace agreement later this year.

According to the latest official count, at least 2,454 people have been killed in Lebanon in six weeks of war.
