Invited on Europe 1-CNews on Tuesday morning, the president of the National Rally spoke at length about his relationship with Princess Maria Carolina, notably echoing the famous line from Nicolas Sarkozy when he made his relationship official with Carla Bruni in 2008.
Since the photos of his couple were revealed in early April in Paris Match, Jordan Bardella had remained silent, letting the media frenzy do the work for him. But on Tuesday morning, on ‘La Grande Interview’ on Europe 1-CNews, hosted by Laurence Ferrari, the president of the National Rally finally opened up about his relationship with Princess Maria Carolina de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles. The 30-year-old politician assured that it was not just a passing fling, but something “serious, as they say,” he joked, referencing Nicolas Sarkozy’s quip when he made his relationship official with Carla Bruni in January 2008.
And he continued, “She is an extremely brave, intelligent, elegant woman with certain qualities. She has that solidity, a name, a history, and a heritage that have conditioned her from a young age to a form of exposure, but we still manage to protect ourselves. In any case, we are very happy.” Jordan Bardella did, however, lament the media pressure surrounding his relationship: “Maria Carolina was followed for several months by paparazzi. I am in politics, so it is very complicated for me to maintain a private life,” he revealed. Adding, “It is part of the downsides of political life, but I have gotten used to it.”
“Bardella is banking on the ‘Gala’ effect”
It is worth noting that the release of images of Jordan Bardella and Maria Carolina, heiress of a prestigious Italian aristocratic lineage, during their outing in Corsica, near Ajaccio, has been perceived by many observers as a staged set-up designed to generate buzz around their relationship and bolster the credibility of the European elected official for a potential future presidential candidacy.
“Bardella is banking on the ‘Gala’ effect,” wrote an internet user under a dedicated publication on the subject. In the public sphere, lawyer Charles Consigny, among others, former LR candidate in the 2022 legislative elections, also joked: “I think it’s obvious that it’s a staged performance. Of course, when you go for a walk by the sea, you wear a tie,” he quipped on the show ‘Apolline Matin’ on April 10. Whatever the case, their relationship, which began several months ago, seems to be enduring.
