Kylian Mbappé defended a fan who entered the field after the final whistle of the match between the French team and Colombia (3-1) this Sunday. The captain of the Blues notably intervened between the supporter and several security members on the sidelines of the match organized in Landover, United States.

While soccer still struggles to make an impact against US sports, Kylian Mbappé is a star in the United States and was able to test his popularity during the team’s American tour before the 2026 World Cup. Substituted in for the last fifteen minutes of the friendly match won by France against Colombia (3-1) this Sunday, the captain of the Blues then found himself in a minor incident with a young supporter. After the final whistle, the fan rushed onto the field to approach the Real Madrid attacker. Wearing a green French team jersey and likely seeking a photo or a hug with his idol, he was roughly tackled by a security member.

All this happened less than two meters from Kylian Mbappé. In the front row, the Frenchman immediately intervened and tried to separate the spectator from the security staff according to images filmed from the stands of the Landover Stadium in the suburbs of Washington DC.

Mbappé fruitlessly talked with security

It was impossible to hear exactly what Kylian Mbappé said to the security agents. But his body language was quite clear. Clearly unhappy with the way the supporter was tackled before being restrained, the French captain tried to free him from the stewards.

During his conversation with the agents, a member of the French delegation even came to film the scene. Perhaps to keep evidence in case of a more serious incident, which ultimately did not happen.

While he briefly succeeded and posed for a few photos with the child who approached him, Kylian Mbappé couldn’t prevent him from being escorted off the field by the security service.

Scoring against Brazil (2-1) and coming on in the final minutes against the Cafeteros, Kylian Mbappé passed through the international window smoothly with the French team. A good sign just over two months before the World Cup where the Blues will face Senegal, Norway, and the winner of the Iraq-Bolivia intercontinental playoff. Three matches in Group I played in the United States where security is expected to be tight.
