ASVEL has an important new piece for its 2026-2027 workforce. As announced, Nick Weiler-Babb (1.96 m, 30 years old) must join the Villeurbanne club, confirms The Progress. The arrival of the German player has not yet been made official by the club, but it is part of an already very active market around the team led by Tony Parker. Indeed, full-back Armoni Brooks (1.94 m, 28 years old) confirmed during the end of season press conference that he had indeed signed for ASVEL.
Nick Weiler-Babb’s profile is clearly identified. The full-back, a German international, is coming off a season at Anadolu Efes after five years at Bayern Munich. Before that, the bronze medalist at EuroBasket 2022 launched his professional career in Germany, in Ludwigsburg, after his university studies in the United States, notably at Iowa State.
Above all, Weiler-Babb arrives with a strong label: that of a major defensive outside in the EuroLeague. In 2024-2025, he was voted best defender in the competition with Bayern Munich, a distinction which gives weight to his potential arrival in a Villeurbanne workforce undergoing reconstruction.
A season at Anadolu Efes before the Villeurbanne turn
Last season, Nick Weiler-Babb wore the colors of Anadolu Efes. In the 2025-2026 EuroLeague, he averaged 7.7 points, 4.8 decisive passes and 1.2 interceptions in 37 games. Figures which do not summarize all his influence, but which confirm his profile as a complete player, capable of contributing without monopolizing the ball.
His arrival would give ASVEL an experienced outsider, accustomed to the EuroLeague level and recognized for his defensive impact. In a team eliminated in the quarter-finals of Betclic ELITE by Cholet, the club seems to want to find more solidity and consistency in its squad.
At this stage, ASVEL has not yet officially communicated on the signing of Weiler-Babb. But the departure of the Anadolu Efes player has already been announced on the Turkish side, which opens the way to a new stage in his European career.
We would like to thank Nick Weiler-Babb, who is in our squad for the 2025-2026 season, for his contributions to our club and wish him success for the next period of his career.

Mbaye Ndiaye expected on a three-year extension
The other file concerns Mbaye Ndiaye (2.04 m, 27 years old). Still according to Le Progrès, the Senegalese international must extend his contract for three years with ASVEL. Here again, the club has not yet made the information official.
Arriving in Villeurbanne in 2023 from Blois, Mbaye Ndiaye has gradually gained depth in the Villeurbanne rotation. In Betclic ELITE 2025-2026, he compiled 9.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 interceptions and 1.3 blocks in 26 minutes on average over 29 games.
His rebounding activity, his mobility and his ability to protect the circle correspond to the same logic as the Weiler-Babb file: densify the squad with profiles capable of existing first of all through intensity, physical impact and defense.
A clear direction: more hardness and versatility
With Nick Weiler-Babb on the back lines and Mbaye Ndiaye in the interior rotation, ASVEL seems to be sending a clear signal. The Villeurbanne club is not only looking to add names to its squad, but also to rebuild a tougher, more physical and more reliable defensive identity.
This orientation must still be confirmed by official announcements from the club and subsequently by recruitment. But the two files, if they go through to the end, already give a first reading of the project: surround the team with players capable of defending, covering several positions and responding to the intensity of the highest European level.
