The Algerian football selection retained its 28th place in the FIFA world rankings for the month of June, published this Thursday by the international body on its official website.
The national team played two friendly matches as part of its preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will kick off this evening in Mexico with the Mexico-South Africa opening match (8 p.m. Algerian time). The Greens first achieved a prestigious success against the Netherlands (1-0) on June 3 in Rotterdam, before outclassing Bolivia (4-0) on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in Kansas City.
On the continental level, the Algerian selection also retained its fourth place. At the top of the world rankings, Argentina, reigning world champion and first opponent of the Algerian selection at the 2026 World Cup, rose to the top of the ranking (1877.27 pts) ahead of Spain (1874.71), and France, which lost two places (1870.70 pts). The Greens’ two other opponents at the World Cup: Austria and Jordan, occupy 24th and 63rd places respectively.
Algeria will begin the World Cup on June 17 against Argentina at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City (02:00, Algerian time), before challenging Jordan on June 23 in Santa Clara (04:00, Algerian time) then Austria on June 28 in Kansas City (03:00, Algerian time). The next world ranking of national teams will be published on July 20, the day after the World Cup final.
