Following the legislative elections, Armenia will continue strengthening its independence, statehood, democracy and the rule of law, as well as its alignment with European standards, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

According to Armenpress, he spoke at a press briefing after voting, in response to Armenian and foreign journalists.

“Armenia’s future lies in strengthening independence, statehood, democracy and the rule of law. We will continue the path of democratic reforms with the support of our European partners,” he declared, describing the European Union as the main partner of these reforms.

He recalled that a law was adopted in Armenia launching the process of joining the EU.

“When Armenia complies with European standards, two scenarios will be possible: accession or refusal, in particular depending on the EU’s decision to enlarge,” he added.

In both cases, Armenia would benefit, estimated the Prime Minister, even without membership, thanks to alignment with European standards.

Regarding the balance between the EU and Russia, he said it was a question of foreign policy.

“We pursue a balanced foreign policy and will continue to do so,” he concluded.
