Ethiopia Participates in 11th BRICS Foreign Policy Dialogue in New Delhi, Foreign Ministry Says

Addis Ababa on June 7, 2026 (ENA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced that the country took part in the 11th BRICS Foreign Policy Dialogue, which was held in New Delhi under the group’s Indian Chairmanship.

 

In a statement published on its official page, the ministry indicated that Ethiopia had reaffirmed its commitment to constructive multilateral engagement and the strengthening of South-South cooperation through its participation in this forum.

 

The Ethiopian delegation, led by Mekonnen Gossaye, Director General of Strategic Planning and Monitoring at the MFA, joined senior foreign policy and planning officials as well as experts from BRICS member states.

The dialogue focused on key global priorities, including resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability, providing a platform for the exchange of views among participating countries.

 

Mr. Mekonnen highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to climate action, particularly through the “Green Legacy” initiative launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, which continues to mobilize nationwide efforts to restore ecosystems and promote environmental sustainability.

 

He also outlined the ongoing economic and digital transformation in Ethiopia, highlighting progress made in infrastructure development, national digital ID systems, fintech solutions and e-government services, which are part of the country’s overall development strategy.

 

Ethiopia further reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation within BRICS, emphasizing knowledge sharing, green finance and collective resilience as essential pillars of sustainable development and shared prosperity.
