Like a return to the Cold War. While 3 million Armenian voters are expected at the polls to choose the composition of their future government on Sunday June 7, the Western bloc and Vladimir Putin’s Russia are observing with particular interest the result of these elections, the outcome of which will determine the geopolitical and geostrategic orientation of the country. Nikol Pashinian, the current Prime Minister and member of the Civil Contract party, who opts for a strategy of rapprochement with the European Union, is given the favorite in the polls. But for the Kremlin, which is banking on the candidacy of the opponent and businessman Samvel Karapetian, the possible confirmation of Armenia’s distancing from the Russian sphere would be difficult to accept.
