Romania: Ukrainian marine drone explodes in Constanta port, authorities activate emergency plan

This new incident comes a week after an aerial drone crashed into a residential building in this EU and NATO member country, injuring two people.

An alert was triggered this Friday morning at the port of Constanta, in Romania, after the explosion of a marine drone, indicates the Romanian media Digi24. The incident occurred near platforms 77 and 78, and authorities activated an emergency plan. Police and gendarmerie teams are on site. Three other drones were also found on the Romanian coast, again according to Digi24.

“The maritime drone discovered this morning, June 5, in the civilian port of Constanta, near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Human Life at Sea, self-destructed around 10:30 a.m. without causing any casualties.”announced the Ministry of Defense in a press release.

Ukraine admits the drone was one of its own, “perturbé» by Russian jamming. The surface drone “of the Ukrainian Navy was disrupted by the enemy’s electronic warfare systems, lost control and ended up near the Romanian coast“, affirmed the Ukrainian navy on Facebook.
