After obtaining Erasmus + accreditation in September 2024 and the International Opening Label (level 2) in January 2025, this Sommeroise educational institution is getting into European time.
Indeed, thanks to the grants received from the European Commission, numerous mobilities were carried out this year: 12 OGEC teachers and staff went to train in English (25 hours of lessons) in Dublin, during the school holidays. They were thus able to improve their level in the language of Shakespeare and discover the Irish capital, 2 4th grade students (Oscar and Ilian) completed 3 and 6 weeks of school immersion respectively at the Fernando de los RÃos college located in Ronda (Andalusia, Spain). They came back delighted and clearly progressed in Spanish. Two groups of 4th grade students carried out thematic mobility in Ronda. 25 students following the LCE Spanish option were tasked with studying how a region affected by drought manages its natural resources and faces climate issues.
The second group made up of 8 students following the “La cabeza dans the clouds” workshop created a nacelle containing sensors to measure different aspects of global warming (temperature, pressure…). The latter will be launched into the stratosphere next year!
Two foreign students came to the college for several months
A group of Italian students spent a week with the Sommiérois with the aim of discovering the region, its history, and its heritage. This was possible thanks to the partnership signed in Paris between the Merician supervisory consortium and the USR Marche (Ufficio Scholastico Regionale).
Two foreign students (an American from New York and a Spaniard from Seville) came to spend 3 to 6 months at the college to complete their education, thanks to the partnership between the Maintenon college and the NACEL organization located in Rodez. Finally, the year ended in style by celebrating Europe on Wednesday May 6, working in collaboration with the Maison de l’Europe in Nîmes. Several European Voluntary Services (EVS) intervened with each class of the school to help them discover different aspects of the EU: the multiple languages spoken, the process of European construction, the discovery of the 27 member countries…
This is how a college located in a rural area is adapting to European time!
