In discussions with Olympiakos since the end of the season to find an agreement regarding Roman Yaremchuk, OL have definitively abandoned the discussions. The Ukrainian will not return to Lyon.

Loaned to Olympique Lyonnais last January, Roman Yaremchuk would have liked to stay in Ligue 1 next season. Paulo Fonseca and Matthieu Louis-Jean were not opposed to it, especially since the 1m91 Ukrainian international (68 caps) had six months of quality in the capital of Gaul. After a period of logical adaptation, Roman Yaremchuk contributed to the good end of the season for OL, who finished 4th in Ligue 1.

OL abandons the Yaremchuk track

The striker who passed through Benfica was decisive with 4 goals scored and his profile as a pivotal attacker freed up space for Afonso Moreira, Endrick and Corentin Tolisso. In the squad rotation, Yaremchuk would have been interesting next season, which is why Lyon tried to find an agreement with Olympiakos for a permanent transfer. Problem, the Greek club categorically refused to lower the price of 5 million euros which corresponded to the purchase option negotiated last January.

In the uncertainty about the European Cup that it will compete in next season, the Lyon club for its part tried to recruit Roman Yaremchuk for a lower sum. According to Transferfeed, the discussions were unsuccessful and this is now final. OL do not wish to match the 5 million euros requested by Olympiakos for the 30-year-old striker and have therefore dropped the matter in this matter.

Matthieu Louis-Jean will now focus on other areas of attack. The technical director of Olympique Lyonnais knows he is expected in this position, where at least two players are expected after the departures of Satriano in January then Yaremchuk but also Endrick this summer, the two players having returned to their respective clubs, Olympiakos and Real Madrid. In recent hours, the great idea of Kader Meité has been suggested to OL, even if this option could prove too costly for the finances of the Rhone club.
