Raúl Guerrón, former Ecuador international, died of cancer | Flashscore.fr

Former Ecuadorian international Raúl Guerrón, who was part of Ecuador’s first selection to play in a World Cup, in 2002, in Korea and Japan, died this Monday from stomach cancer, announced the country’s football federation.

In a press release, the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) “I deeply déploré the décès of Raúl Fernando Guerrón Méndez†, remembering him as “a glory of Ecuadorian football who has distinguished himself in several clubs in the country”.

The FEF also addresses “his most sincere condolences to his family, his colleagues and his friends from the world of football and life”.

During his career, Raúl Guerrón was part of the first selection of theÉquateur to participate in a World Cup, playing as a left back during the 2002 World Cup.

Guerrón, aged 49, has worn the colors of clubs like Deportivo Quito, Catholic University et Barcelona Guayaquildistinguishing himself in Ecuadorian football over several seasons.

According to the Ecuadorian press, the former defender died a few days after asking for donations for a surgical operation.
