The contract of Mees Hilgers (25) with FC Twente has been automatically extended for one season, the Tukkers announced on their own channels.
In an official press release, the club, currently fourth in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie, specifies: “Mees Hilgers’ contract with FC Twente has been automatically extended for one season. FC Twente wishes to keep the central defender and has therefore not terminated his contract which expires before April 1. HAS”
“As the player did not give his agreement before May 16, the contract is now extended for one season, in accordance with the collective agreement for professional football players. Hilgers’ commitment now runs until mid-2027,” the club specifies.
After a difficult season, marked by serious injuries and stalled negotiations, the club is clarifying the defender’s future.
Born in Amersfoort, the central defender has been playing for the Tukkers since 2011 and has played 129 official matches with the first team.
According to Transfer market, its market value still amounts to 4 million euros. Thanks to this automatic extension, the four-time Indonesian international cannot leave free of any contract.
Twente could, however, decide to sell him during the next summer transfer window. The defender has not played since May 25, 2025.
