Before the start of the World Cup in America, the Fifa ranking evolved with the friendly matches which took place before the start of the competition.

Reigning world champion, Argentina has regained first place in the Fifa world rankings published on Thursday, a position it has not held since July 2025. The Albiceleste is taking advantage of its successes in preparation matches against Iceland and Honduras to overtake France, beaten by the Coast d’Ivoire despite a victory against Northern Ireland, and which falls to third place. Spain maintains its second place after a draw against Iraq and a success against Peru. This ranking constitutes the last global hierarchy before the kickoff of the 2026 World Cup.

In the top 10, Morocco continues its progress and reaches seventh place, the best ranking in its history since the creation of the Fifa ranking in 1993, ahead of the Netherlands, now eighth. Among the top twenty nations, Mexico climbs to 14th place and Uruguay to 16th, while Senegal and the United States fall one place. Iran, for its part, re-enters the top 20, occupying 20th position. No change is recorded at the gates of the Top 10 and no team enters or exits.
