Every week, fans vote on the eligible NRL and Super League players for the nations competing in the 2026 World Cup.

And this week, Latrell Siegwalt became the first French representative to join this team.

Author of a remarkable performance during the victory (36-12) against the Cronulla Sharks, Siegwalt collected 24% of the votes for the center position, ahead of several other international stars such as Bradman Best, Casey McLean, Tolu Koula and Herbie Farnworth.

Usually played at fullback or halfback, Siegwalt was repositioned at center to replace Latrell Mitchell, and he responded for his NRL debut. Solid defensively, he notably distinguished himself with a huge tackle on Sifa Talakai near his line. In attack, he showed a lot of technical quality and real intelligence despite the pressure of his debut.

Laurent Frayssinous seduces

The coach of the French team, Laurent Frayssinous, has been following the player for several months and had recently spoken with him in Australia as part of the preparation for the Rugby League World Cup 2026. After the match, Frayssinous quickly congratulated the young player.

According to him, Siegwalt is capable of playing in several positions thanks to his intelligence and his reading of the game. The French coach also confirmed that the steps around his international eligibility were still underway.

Family pride

Siegwalt’s connection to France comes from his paternal grandfather. The player explained that he wanted to honor this part of his family by potentially representing the Blues at the World Cup. Seduced by the project presented by Frayssinous and the ambitions of French rugby union, Siegwalt affirmed that he would be very interested in the opportunity to wear the French jersey.
