"Every night there are more strikes than the day before": despite the agreement between Iran and the United States, the ceasefire in Lebanon hangs by a thread

Can we still talk about a ceasefire in South Lebanon? The night of June 18 to 19 was punctuated by rocket and artillery fire between pro-Iranian Hezbollah and Israel, around Nabatieh, the second largest city in the south of the country. Israeli strikes carried out in the region left at least 16 dead according to the Lebanese National Information Agency.

Fighting of unprecedented intensity since Monday and the announcement of the Iranian-American agreement which was to put an end to the fighting. Hezbollah claims that Israel is now trying to advance in areas near the city.

Perched on a low wall of the hospital, four young rescuers contemplate the glowing sprays in the night: these are the Hezbollah rockets passing over our heads, the anti-missile system and Israeli artillery fire on the other. “Israel wants to advance on Kfar Tebnithe assures. Every night there are more strikes, there have never been so many since Monday…

The detonations numbered in the dozens, some of them very close to the hospital. “It’s routine for us. When the war ends, we will miss the noise”, quips another young person. Before blowing: “It’s unfortunate, but it has become everyday life.”

The Nabatieh hospital is, it seems, the safest place in the city: despite the deafening strikes, everyone remains calm. At the entrance to the emergency room, the nurses smoke hookahs. “When we are sure there are injured people, we go out. When we’re not very sure and it’s dangerous like that, the ambulances don’t come out“, specifies one of them.

At the same time, an orange light tears through the night: an explosion rings out very close to the establishment. “But it’s too risky to go outhe said. Israeli drones monitor everything that moves at night“.
