Relaying a national call, a rally was organized this June 18 at noon at the initiative of the National Union of Journalists and the Human Rights League.
“We wanted to bring journalists together because there is an emergency! We see today that the implementation of artificial intelligence benefits our management to eliminate jobs such as editorial secretaries (the journalists responsible for the layout and proofreading of the articles, Editor’s note) and freelancers (journalists paid by article or page, Editor’s note). Because once again, it is we who will pay while our bosses reap the profits”denounces Cathy Rocher, national representative of the National Union of Journalists and member of the SNJ section of Midi Libre.
A union which, this June 18 (as at the national level) and with the Human Rights League (LDH) called on information professionals and their supporters to demonstrate in front of the Opéra Comédie.
Perhaps the sign of the end of an era
Alas, the call, although relayed, did not mobilize. Including among Montpellier professionals directly affected by this change of era.
Only around twenty people responded, including municipal councilor Michel Calvo and MP Fanny Dombre-Coste.
Perhaps a sign of a changing era, in the light of new ways of consuming information, even those subject to doubt as to the veracity of its sources.
