A deep strike on Russian territory. An attack from kyiv targeted a town in Tatarstan, in central Russia, far from the Ukrainian border, on the night of Thursday June 11 to Friday June 12. Radmir Beliaev, the mayor of the industrial city of Nizhnekamsk, located in the Republic of Tatarstan some 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border, reported on Telegram a Ukrainian drone attack on a residential building. According to the mayor, the attack left four injured.

This strike caused the cancellation of celebrations on Friday, according to local authorities. “For security reasons, it has been decided to cancel all public events planned for today“, declared the mayor. June 12 is Russia Day, a national holiday. Following this strike, more than 20 people were moved to temporary accommodation, according to the mayor. The Ukrainian General Staff is on its side claimed on Telegram night strikes in Tatarstan having targeted two oil refineries located in Nizhnekamsk.

Furthermore, during the night, in Suzemka, in the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, at least two civilians were killed in artillery fire, said acting governor Egor Kovalchuk on Telegram. The mayor of Moscow, for his part, assured that around ten Ukrainian drones heading towards Moscow had been intercepted during the night. kyiv has stepped up its retaliatory strikes in Russia in recent months, targeting Russian towns as far as the Ural Mountains, hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Ukrainian drone strikes, which have intensified in recent months, aim to “sow division” within Russian society and “cause damage” economy, judged Vladimir Putin on Friday, assuring however that they “will not succeed“. “Their goal is to divide Russian society, sow confusion and inflict economic damage. But they will not succeed”declared the Russian president during a meeting in the Kremlin with soldiers. Vladimir Putin did not quantify the extent of the damage caused by these strikes, but he assured that “everything is quickly repaired”. Moscow “must strengthen its air defense system”said the Russian head of state, as he did last week after Ukrainian drones struck an oil installation and a military site in Saint Petersburg, on the opening day of the Economic Forum in his hometown.
